Scholarships
Students who have declared their intention to pursue the Minor in Communication and Public Advocacy or the Undergraduate Concentration in Public and Professional Writing are eligible for two scholarships.

Lee Norvelle Scholarship

The Lee Norvelle Scholarship is a $1500 scholarship awarded annually to an undergraduate student who has declared officially that they are pursuing either the Minor in Communication and Public Advocacy or the Undergraduate Concentration in Public and Professional Writing. Criteria include GPA and recommendations from present and past professors. The scholarship is funded by a gift from Lee Norvelle, who was a professor in the Department of English and who had a primary and instrumental role in founding the Departments of Speech and Theater.


McDowell-Gilliam Scholarships

The McDowell-Gilliam Scholarships are awarded annual as multiple scholarships of at least $1000 each, depending on the available funds. All undergraduate students who have declared officially that they are pursuing either the Minor in Communication and Public Advocacy or the Undergraduate Concentration in Public and Professional Writing are eligible. Criteria include GPA and recommendations from present and past professors. (According to the gift agreement, preference must be given to students who are graduates of Twin Lakes High School in Monticello, Indiana, and who meet the scholarship criteria).


To declare your intention to pursue either the Minor in Communication and Public Advocacy or the Undergraduate Concentration in Rhetoric, Writing, and Communication, and thus become eligible for these scholarships, please contact the Academic Advisor in the Department of English.
